A COUNTY bowling club with royal connections have launched a major recruitment drive in preparation to the new season.

More members are needed for Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club, which made headlines when players enjoyed a surprise visit and personal handshake from the Queen in the grounds of Windsor Castle during a 25th anniversary tour in 2013.

Now the club have extended a VIP invitation of its own – with all invited to its recruitment and open day on Sunday, starting at 2.15 p.m.

People will be able to find out more about the club as well as trying their hand at rink bowls.

“We are always looking to boost membership and the start of a new season is the perfect time to get our message across,” said club chairman Lester Bennett.

“Some members enjoy a friendly roll-up once a week whilst others play in competitions at local and national level.

“We extend a warm welcome to all, whatever their interests or abilities.”

Friendlies against local and touring sides are staged throughout the season, home and away, with weekly Strollers – a more informal get together – one of the club’s most popular fixtures.

Around 30 members also recently turned up to give the club and green its annual spring clean.

“We are all set for the new season now and looking forward to welcoming some new faces,” added Bennett.
