THE Ludlow Castle Motor Club crews had to battle against some difficult weather conditions in the Rally North Wales in the Dyfi forest complex near Dolgellau.

Top seed in the modern section was co-driver Chris Brooks, who partnered Bob Ceen in his Subaru Impreza WRC. Out for Welsh Championship points, a nice clean run through the morning stages saw them just a few seconds down on their main rivals.

However, stage four saw them lose the front brakes, and with the brake pedal going to the floor, Ceen had to resort to using the handbrake to slow the car down causing them to spin at a downhill hairpin. They managed to sort the problem and with a good run through the remaining stages finished sixth overall, and second of the Welsh Championship contenders.

Tim Cains and Richard May were out in the Peugeot 309 and they reported an off in one of the early stages which knocked a rear tyre off its rim. The pair decided to drive the remaining five miles to the end of the stage but Cains admitted he was just too slow for the rest of the day. They still managed third overall and second in the class.

Co-driver Jez Rogers was again out in Jon Jones' Fiesta.

They put in a late entry having just managed to repair the car following their roll in the Malcolm Wilson Rally. However, just five minutes before the start they noticed the wipers didnât work. Unfortunately the service crew decided to make repairs there and then, resulting in a one-minute 30 second penalty.

To compound matters the wipers still didn't work, and with heavy rain falling throughout, they were forced to stop and clean the windscreen on several occasions. Despite the setbacks Jones/Rogers managed to finish 47th overall and second in class.

In the historic section of the event Gary Smith/Andy Wynn brought out Smith's DMS Plastics-sponsored MkI Escort.

Smith, getting back into it after a lengthy break, brought the car home with no dramas to finish third in class.

Harvey Price/George Gifford failed to finish after being timed out of the event.
