TENBURY Cricket Club chairman Alan Taylor is hoping that significant renovation work will finally start at Penlu as the team gear up for the start of the new season.

The Worcestershire club were awarded a grant of £72,000 from Sport England to spruce up their facilities.

The main roof is set to be replaced, while the changing rooms will be completely refurbished.

Taylor was hopeful it would all be completed by the time the season starts in three weeks time.

But various hold-ups mean that work has yet to start.

"We have got quotes for the roof and the replacement of windows and hope the paperwork can get signed off before making a start just after Easter," said Taylor.

"The replacement of the roof will be about £20,000, while we will completely refurbish the changing rooms, with them all being re-decorated.

"Central heating is going in upstairs and there will be a new system for there showers.

"There will also be three additional showers for the younger players, so there is quite a lot to do.

"We were hoping that this building work would be done by the start of the season, but we were held up various things.

"Hopefully, we can just carry on with it now."

Tenbury struggled in Division 3 of the Worcestershire County League last season and will be in Division 5 this time round.

Long-serving player Steve Giles will captain the first team this season, with fast bowler Zack Yarronton being his deputy.

The club are looking for new players for the forthcoming campaign and also want young players to try out the club.

Coaching seasons, costing £3 each, will be at Penlu from 10am to 3pm on Tuesday and Wednesday for boys and girls over the age of 10.
