TENBURY coach Andy Black said he always knew his relegation-threatened side would come good following an excellent 24-11 win against Yardley & District in Midlands 4 West (North).

The Palmers Meadow side still have a minimal chance of survival, but saw third-from-bottom Market Drayton also win.

“All season we’ve been saying we’ve got the quality," said Black.

"We just wanted to play some good rugby, we knew if we did that then the wins would follow.

“Against Yardley we’ve come off the pitch feeling good, not only with the win but also with the style of our victory as well.”

Black did not feel that any one player stood out and reserved praise for the whole team.

"No one shone as the best performer but every player has done what was asked of them and that’s why we won," said Black.

Played in front of a large Presidents' Day crowd, Tenbury dominated from the start with some tough tackling and strong defensive play .

They opened the with a try from Dan Rawlings that was converted by Will Gough.

Yardley responded with two penalty kicks as they fought their way back into the game, but Black’s side edged further in front with another try from Rawlings before the break.

The second half saw them add another try from Richard Wozencroft and two penalties thanks to the boot of Gough to secure the important victory.

Tenbury remain bottom of the table, but closed the gap on second from bottom Greyhound to a single point.

Market Drayton kept themselves in the survival driving seat after picking up a 23-7 win against Bromyard.

Tenbury must overcome a nine-point gap from their final three games if they are to secure safety.

“It’s out of our hands," admitted Black.

"We’ve just got to go and try and win as many of our remaining games as we can.”

Both Greyhound and Market Drayton are yet to face runaway leaders Cleobury Mortimer and also face a head-to-head with each other on the final day of the season.

“On paper we’ve got the easiest run in," said Black.

"We’ve got to make sure we’re in a position to catch Market Drayton if they do slip up.”
