AFC LUDLOW emphatically ended a run of seven matches without a win after thrashing Wem Town in West Midlands (Regional) League Division 1.

Manager Dave Cooper, who has previously blamed a lack of goals for his side's poor run of form, said it was one of the best performances he has seen at the Showtime Security Stadium.

“I’ve moaned a bit about our lack of goals recently and I wanted our midfielders to chip in with some," said Cooper.

"To their credit all four scored goals."

AFC Ludlow raced to a two-goal advantage at the break with Keiran Dovey and George Sankey getting their names on the scoresheet.

Wem pulled a goal back shortly after half time break, but Ludlow restored their two-goal advantage just five minutes later when Keano Cooper rounded off a fine passing move to make it 3-1.

Jamie Smith added to the scores with a fine 20-yard strike before Marion Jusko added a fifth with another fine finish to complete the rout.

“It was a great team performance” said a delighted Cooper.

"It was one of the best I’ve seen since I’ve been here.

"We scored some really good goals and the build-up play for our third was fantastic.

"We made at least seven or eight passes before we scored.”

Cooper was quick to praise the maturity of his young side.

“We’ve got a lot of young lads out there, but they’ve shown great maturity this season to get us to where we are at the moment," said Cooper.

"It gives us high hopes for next season.

"They are all young local lads all with a desire to improve and give 100 per cent.”

However Cooper admits he is still searching for an experienced head to come in and help guide the youngsters.

“I’m busy looking for someone who can give us a bit of experience and leadership," he said.

"With a bit of luck we’ll have been able to add to our ranks in time for our next game.”

Ludlow have a free weekend this Saturday, but then face a tough trip to fourth-placed Stone Old Alleynians.
