LUDLOW Hockey Club coach Martin Watts was happy with his side’s performance despite going down 5-1 to leaders Finchfield in Warwick Printing West Midlands League Premier Division.

Finchfield stormed into a two-goal lead after less than 10 minutes, but Ludlow gradually worked their way back into the match with Stuart Richards scoring a tap-in from a penalty corner. They went on to take control of the game and created a number of excellent opportunities but could not find a way past the excellent Finchfield keeper.

With just ten minutes to go, Ludlow were denied what appeared to be a clear penalty stroke, and were immediately hit by a sucker punch when Finchfield raced forward and won their own penalty stroke which was duly converted.

Watts said: “The score appears to indicate a comfortable victory for the home side, but this was far from the case and Ludlow put in an outstanding performance.”

The second and third teams both saw their games called off.
