NEWCASTLE suffered a narrow defeat in Mid Wales League (South) after going down 3-2 at home to table toppers Carno Reserves.

The loss left home boss John Goodridge incensed at a couple of decisions that went against his side.

The match was played in tricky windy conditions, with Newcastle starting strongly. They could have been 2-0 up at half time, with the best chance of a goalless first half falling to Craig Morris whose effort was ruled out for handball.

After the break, the home side nudged in front when Ryan Bufton got on the end of a Jimmy Thomas cross. However, the lead was short lived with the visitors soon equalising before taking the lead on the hour mark.

Soon after there was a moment of controversy when the visiting goalkeeper appeared to catch the ball outside the box when Sam Morgan looked well placed to score.

At the other end, Newcastle goalkeeper Gary Davies made a couple of excellent saves but was beaten for the third time as Newcastle searched in vain to draw level.

They did pull one goal back in the last minute with Sam Morgan firing home from close range. Thomas Price, who was excellent down the left hand side for Newcastle, was just beaten to the man of the match award by Tom Bright.

This Saturday Newcastle face Hay St Mary Reserves at home (2pm).
