ORLETON Colts were one of the few teams to have played on Saturday - but were left wishing they hadn't.

Their Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division game at Fownhope went ahead despite heavy rain which fell in the hours before kick-off.

Colts went down 4-2 to leave them in fifth place, 12 points off leaders Wellington Reserves.

"We led twice but weren't able to see out the match," said boss Kristian Morgan.

"It was 2-2 at half time but we went to pieces in the second half.

"The pitch was really heavy but that is not an excuse."

Daniel Crowther grabbed both Colts' goals, finishing well on both occasions when through one-on-one with the Fownhope goalkeeper.

But each time they were pegged back, to the frustration of Morgan.

"We gifted them the goals in the second half," he said.

This Saturday Colts are away at Pegasus Reserves who currently sit in third place.

"We'll have to show up for that one," added Morgan.

Meanwhile, Woofferton's hopes of a first game in three weeks were dashed by the weather.

The villagers, who are second in Hereford Times Herefordshire League Division One, had planned to travel to Clee Hill but the heavy weekend rain forced the match to be postponed.

The cancellation was a blow to the villagers who return to action on Saturday following a four week break.

Their last outing saw them beat Brimfield 3-2, while they haven't lost since the middle of October when they went down 6-3 at Fownhope Reserves.

"We are looking to continue our good unbeaten run in to the New Year," said Dave 'Magnum' Thomas, who plays for Woofferton.

"It was a bit of a shame that Saturday's game was called off as it would have been good practice."

He said the league is unpredictable this season with Ewyas Harold Reserves' win at Holme Lacy last weekend being a case in point. He thinks Woofferton have had a good season so far.

"We're unbeaten at home and playing well," he said.

"It's a bit disappointing being out of two cups but we're still in one. It's going well."
