CLEOBURY Mortimer are through to the last four of the Midlands Junior Vase as their phenomenal form shows no sign of relenting.

The 15-5 win at Belper is their 13th consecutive victory in all competitions.

However, the club's impressive run was almost derailed in bizarre circumstances when the team coach arrived just 50 minutes before kick-off after one of the Cleobury players, centre John Britton, forgot his kit.

"He arrived on time but then told us he'd forgotten his kit," said captain Will Bache.

"He went back to get it and caught up with us just before Bridgnorth.

"We arrived at 1.10pm for a 2pm kick-off."

And despite the result, the day didn't get much better for Britton who was sin-binned following an incident which didn't involve him.

"It was a case of mistaken identity," said Bache.

"It should have been Tom Redfern. I'm not quite sure why the referee thought it was John as he and Tom look nothing like each other."

Tom Leach and a converted Dave Shorter try saw Cleobury to a 12-0 half time lead. A Redfern drop goal after the break extended the advantage to 15-0 before Belper hit back with a late try of their own.

"Our defence was outstanding throughout the game," said Bache.

"It would have been great to have nil-ed them but it was a great win."

He said the draw for the semi-finals is due to take place in the coming days.

"The boys are getting excited now," said Bache. "There are no easy games at this stage but we're looking forward to it."

Cleobury are back in league action this weekend when they'll be looking to extend their 100 per cent winning record to 12 games when they entertain bottom-of-the-table Tenbury, who they walloped 76-3 in September.

"I'm expecting a tough game," said Bache.

"It's a local derby and they will be more than up for it, particularly after our match earlier in the season. They will be like a wounded animal.

"I've said before that this is a tough league."
