ONE of Ludlow Hockey Club's rising stars has been named Shropshire's young player of the year in the under-13 category.

Ieuan Hutchinson is a pupil at Wigmore High School and has been on Ludlow's books for two years after his family re-located from the Middle East.

He was presented with his prize from Liam Hennessey, one of England Hockey's centrally contracted coaches.

"He is a skilful and athletic player and reads the game well," said Ludlow Hockey Club's Roger Furniss.

"He follows in his family footsteps with both his older brothers Lyam and Calum playing for Ludlow and his father Graham being a former Welsh international.

"Along with many other Ludlow youngsters he attended selection sessions on Sunday for the 2015 Shropshire squads."

Ludlow's first team lost 3-2 to Market Drayton in Warwick Printing West Midlands League Premier Division.

Drayton went into the break 1-0 up despite Ludlow dominating possession.

The second half continued in the same vein but the away side scored two further goals.

Ill-discipline then saw both teams reduced to nine men before Brendan Pratt and Andrew Richards scored twice for Ludlow.

Ludlow 3rd were hammered 8-1 by Barlaston in Midlands North Fathom.

Jake Watts scored Ludlow's solitary goal.
