AFC Ludlow boss Dave Cooper was seething after Wem scored a 99th minute equaliser to deny his side all three points in West Midlands League Division One.

Dale Hodge looked to have won the game for AFC Ludlow in the 92nd minute and they held on by keeping the ball in the corner.

But amazingly Wem snatched a draw when a player volleyed home deep into injury time.

"We were robbed – there is no other way to describe it," said Cooper.

"The linesman said there was only a minute to go after we scored, then the referee gave a corner when it should have been a goal kick.

"Their lad was then left unmarked and volleyed it in.

"Where the ref got those minutes from, I will never know – it was unbelievable.

"It was a real kick in the teeth, but we shouldn't have conceded the goals we did.

"I have praised the defence all season, but we conceded all the goals from set pieces."

Wem opened the scoring after eight minutes when a header ricocheted off the head of AFC Ludlow goalkeeper Ian Havard.

Jack Beaumont equalised for AFC Ludlow from the penalty spot just before half-time after Jake Price was upended and from thereon in the away side dominated proceedings.

However it was Wem who restored their lead when a player got on the end of a free-kick.

With 10 minutes to go, Hodge levelled matters following a corner before he added another in injury time.

But it was Wem who would have the last word.

"There was only going to be one team who was going to win that football match," said Cooper.

"It is a really painful thing to take because we were the better side.

"All we can do is just go again, starting against Wrens Nest on Saturday."

AFC Ludlow are now seven points off the top the league following two successive draws.

Defeat against Wrens Nest would take their opponents above them in the table – something which Cooper is conscious about.

"They beat us at home last year and drew at their place, so they took four points from us," said Cooper.

"Ian Havard is unavailable so I will be donning my gloves, which I'm looking forward to.

"It's a game we have to try and win."
