CLEOBURY Mortimer is one of the most in form teams in the country - and their captain is keen to ensure they don't take their foot off the gas.

The Shropshire outfit currently sit top of the pile in Midlands Four West (North) having won all eight of their matches so far this campaign.

In the course of those matches they have scored a total of 393 points, and conceded just 34.

The side continued their impressive form in the third round of the Midlands Vase Plate last weekend, seeing off Coventry Welsh 41-5.

"It's been a really good start to the season," said captain Will Bache.

"If I'm honest it started in pre-season. We've got a young side; the average age of our backs is 20 or 21.

"We finished fourth last year and to be honest I was just looking to finish higher than that.

"I would love us to stay at the top but it is a tough league.

"We obviously want to keep it going. We know that when the pitches get wet and muddy during winter that we will have to dig in."

Tries from Paul Hulland (three), John Hulland, Sam Sutton and Dave Leach helped Cleobury surge to victory over Coventry. Leach also kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Remarkably, until their last league outing, Cleobury had not conceded more than five points in any of their fixtures.

They started the season with a 35-0 demolition of Rugeley before notching a 76-3 win over bottom-of-the-table Tenbury, a 68-3 hammering of Yardley & District and a 65-5 success at Bromyard.

This Saturday, Cleobury will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record when they travel to Hereford-based outfit Greyhound, who currently sit second-bottom of the table with just one win all campaign.
