GAZ Edwards joked he may not be able to go out in Tenbury until February if his United team do not beat Town in an eagerly awaited derby on Saturday.

Edwards played for Town for three years and also acted as their secretary for a season.

He is now on United’s books after joining the Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League side in the summer and knows all the pressure is on his side in the Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final encounter that kicks off at 1.45pm.

“It will be a bit strange playing against them,” said Edwards.

“When I was playing for them, I really wanted the game, but now I would say that I don’t really want it. If we lose, I don’t think I will be able to go out until next February.”

It will be the first time that United and Town would have played each other in a competitive game and United go into it as overwhelming favourites.

“It is a game everyone is looking forward to,” said United-manager Aaron Morris.

“When I text everyone to check on their availability, you’ll be sure that they will all say yes.

“We are all friends, but I’m sure there will be a competitive edge to the game.

“They want to win badly, but we are looking forward to it and hope for a good turnout.”

Mike Foster could be in line to play some part of the match for United after fighting his way back from injury, but Dale Withers is unavailable.

Another player who has links between the two clubs is Town striker Alex Bright.

He played as a goalkeeper for United for three to four years and cannot wait to lock horns with some of his former team-mates.

“We will definitely go into is as underdogs, but it will be good to give them a game and hope we can run them close,” said Bright.

Town manager Bob Sumner added that he was bombarded with messages as soon as the draw was made last month.

“I had text message upon text message and tweets about the match and they were all excited about it,” said Sumner.

“End of the day, they are two leagues above us and we’ve got nothing to prove against them.

“We will just treat it like any other game and prepare right and see what we’ll do against them.”

Sumner added that it will be great that the town will finally see its tow football teams clash.

“Everyone wants the game and I think Tenbury wants it,” he said.

“I hope everyone is here for the game.”

The winner will face either Welland or AFC Worcester Olympic U21.
