LUDLOW swimmer Jack Corston achieved a personal best in the 100m front crawl in round two of the National Arena League in Tamworth.

Corston finished in a time of 59.68 and was part of a Ludlow Swimming Club team that took part in the event.

The club took on Telford, Blythe, Tamworth and Perry Beeches in the showpiece that saw some other good performances.

Oliver Morgan swam well under pressure in three individual events and two relays, while his sister Rebecca also did well.

The girls’ 15-year-old team were just beaten in the medley relay at the start of the evening, but later won the front crawl relay by two seconds.

Halfway through the proceedings, a consecutive triple win by Corston, Olivia Morgan and Ffion Gilbert boosted the

The club’s open swimmers from university also once again travelled to support the team and achieved some great results.

Guy Woodhouse swam the 100m fly and achieved a personal best.

With five disqualifications, the team finished third, but would have been second if they were not penalised.

The third and final round will be next month.

“The evening’s events went well and as always these young swimmers swam with gusto and enthusiasm,” said Ludlow Swimming Club spokesman Steve Martin.

“Many of our younger swimmers are at the lower age in their age category and often are swimming in the age group above, but this never deters them from doing their absolute best.

“Swimming requires a great deal of commitment, so a great many thanks to our swimmers and their families, our committee and team of voluntaries who give up their time to teach and officiate.”

The club will be holding their Christmas party at Ludlow Rugby Club from 4pm on Sunday, December 14.
