TENBURY RFC are hopeful of having key players back this weekend when they renew their league campaign against Yardley and District.

The Palmers Meadow side currently prop up the Midlands Four West (North) table having only won one game all season.

“Hopefully Pete Foster, Jack Brain and Luke Brittain will be back to do a job, but we will have to see who is available,” said Tenbury captain Will Gough.

Last Saturday, Tenbury 2nd thrashed Stourport 62-7 in a friendly played at Palmers Meadow.

Tenbury rattled in ten tries, including three from Claude Celton and debutant Adam West.

“Adam has come from St Michaels and got a contract with us,” said Gough.

“He is a winger and played well.”

Ed Gough, Callum Spires, Greg Powell Jacob Thomas were also among the try scorers, with Will Gough adding six out of ten conversions.

Gough was also sinbinned for a professional foul, while coach Andy Black also made a rare appearance in the match.

“I played against Rugeley a couple of weeks ago, but that was only my second game this season,” said Black.

The match was played in aid of a memorial cup donated by Tenbury Town Mayor Mark Willis.

The mayor has connections to both towns and his son played for Stourport.

The cup was in memory of his late father and father-in-law.

Cleobury Mortimer are now 15 points clear at the top of Midlands Four West (North) following a 27-14 home win against nearest challengers Cannock.

It was the first time this season that Cleobury failed to pick up any bonus points.

“They were a big, physical side and the best defensive team we have played,” said Cleobury captain Will Bache.

“It was 20-0 at half-time and if we had scored a couple more tries, we would have blown them away.

“But we are 15 points clear at the top, so I cannot argue with that.”

Ben Howman, Alex Howman and Paul Hulland grabbed Cleobury’s tries, with Dave Leach providing the kicking duties.

Bishops Castle are now Cleobury’s nearest challengers, following a 16-10 win at Market Drayton.

Pete Bevan and Ben Davies were Castle’s try scorers, with Jack Holloway and Henry Wilson adding penalty kicks.

“It is a tight group near the top of the table and, if we had lost on Saturday, we could have been sixth or seventh,” said captain Holloway.

Clee Hill went down 36-5 to Eccleshall in Midlands Three West (North), with Craig Breakwell scoring their solitary try.

“They outplayed us and I was impressed with how they played,” said Clee Hill captain Matt Bowen.

“We haven’t played all of the top teams yet, so it was a bit of a wake-up call.”

Church Stretton maintained their 100% start in Midlands Five West (North) with a 32-3 win against Chaddersley Corbett. Danny Harley, George Bagley, Tom Ward, Jack Titley and Bean Speake grabbed Stretton's tries.
