NEWCASTLE are out of the Emrys Morgan Cup following a 4-2 defeat to Guilsford Reserves in the second round.

Guilsford, who sit second in Montgomeryshire League Division One, started well, but Newcastle gradually found their feet and looked dangerous going forward.

However, the home side took the lead after 25 minutes with a fine move and finish on the left-hand side.

Carl Price then headed over from close range with only the goalkeeper to beat for Newcastle before Guilsford doubled their advantage just before half-time.

The game was effectively put to bed within minutes of the restart when Guilsford made it 3-0, but to their credit, Newcastle still created chances.

However, the home side scored a fourth goal to seal the game with a long range effort with 20 minutes to go.

Newcastle were then awarded a penalty for pushing in the box, which was dispatched by Craig Morris before substitute Tom Price reduced the arrears further.

The Mid Wales (South) side then had a great chance to make a real game of it when they were awarded a second penalty.

But Morris blazed his effort over the bar and it was Guilsford who progressed.

After the match, Newcastle manager John Goodridge said he was pleased with the overall performance of his side and felt the main difference between the two teams was the home side's clinical finishing.

This Saturday, Newcastle entertain local rivals Knighton Town Reserves, with a 2.15pm kick-off.
