A DEBUT goal by teenager Connor Deadman helped Clee Hill secure three valuable points in the Mercian Football League Division One.

The 16 year-old was only signed by manager Wayne Whitbread on the morning of Saturday's home game against strugglers Claverley.

Deadman was a late substitute who scored Clee Hill's third goal to move his side up to fourth place.

"We were all over the noon for him," said Whitbread.

The home side fell behind but were level moments later when Ollie Smith headed home from a corner before Adam Warren curled in a free-kick to give Clee Hill the lead and Deadman rounded off the win.

Meanwhile, Church Stretton were denied a chance of progressing in the Shropshire County Challenge Cup after the referee over-ruled his assistant who had flagged for a penalty.

The contentious decision occurred in the final minute of extra time as Stretton were trailing 2-1 at Madeley Sports in the second round tie.

Matt Newton burst into the home side's penalty area and was tripped by a Madeley defender, forcing the linesman to flag for a penalty.

But this was over-ruled by the man in the middle, who blew the final whistle moments later.

"Even the Madeley players stopped," said Stretton manager, Paul Smith.

"I spoke to the referee afterwards and he said it was collision and that the game is full of opinions."

Smith's side took the lead through Shaun Gough on the hour mark but were undone by a speculative 25 yard strike five minutes from the end of normal time.

Then, in extra time, Madeley grabbed what turned out to be the winner with another long-range effort.

"We were well on course to win the game, " said Smith.

Newcastle squandered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Brecon Northcote in Mid Wales League (South).

The visitors were out of sight after just ten minutes when Josh Morgan, Carl Price and Ryan Bufton found the net.

Brecon pulled a goal back before the break but it looked to be just a consolation until they netted twice in the final 15 minutes to snatch a point.

Elsewhere, Orleton Colts won 5-3 at Leominster Town in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division.

In Division One, Brimfield bear Bartestree Reserves 3-1, while Woofferton won 5-3 at Hinton Reserves.
