LUDLOW Hockey Club snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after being edged out in a five goal thriller against Sikh Union Coventry.

Andrew Richards thought he had put the home side ahead in the West Midlands Premier League match, but an illegal challenge on him resulted in a penalty stroke which Brendan Pratt calmly put away.

Ludlow missed several chances after this but didn't convert and they allowed the visitors back into the game with a goal shortly before half time.

After the break Coventry scored twice in the space of a few minutes, but this prompted wave after wave of Ludlow attacks, although most were thwarted by brave goal-line clearances until Graham Hutchinson scored from a penalty corner.

And despite Coventry being reduced to ten men on two occasions, Ludlow were unable to add to the score.

Ludlow 2nd recorded their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory at Evesham.

Despite having a last minute stand-in goalkeeper and six absentees from the previous match, Ludlow came out on top.

A vicious Mike Wilson shot deflected in off the goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead after just five minutes.

The young side continued to dominated with Jack Pritchard and James Raymond playing well on the flanks.

Centre-half Jake Watts was denied when a roof-bound reverse shot was deflected onto the crossbar by the defenders' turned back.

with no award of a penalty stroke. Ludlow created several good opportunities and would have been at least 3 ahead but for a superb goal line clearance from a clever Watts shot and two tantalisingly Tom Aston near misses.

Ludlow continued to dominate after the break with Tom Crump one of many players going close.

There was no such good news for a depleted Ludlow 3rd's though who slipped to a 3-0 defeat at Stone.
