AFC Ludlow boss Dave Cooper was delighted with his team after they beat a RAF team last Saturday.

The Showtime Stadium side were without a league fixture due to Ledbury Town withdrawing from West Midlands League Division One.

But between 90 and 100 people saw them in action against the RAF in a friendly and were treated to a fine performance.

"We were missing six or seven key players, but our lads did ok," said Cooper.

"It was a RAF 23 squad, so all of their players were aged 23 and under.

"I think we were the best side overall and had the better chances.

"We will hopefully play them again in February, but if not, it will definitely be a yearly thing."

The RAF opened the scoring after about 20 minutes, but AFC Ludlow equalised 10 minutes later when Keanu Cooper set up Jason Mynett.

AFC Ludlow goalkeeper Ian Havard had to make a couple of saves in the second half, but the home side always looked like they could grab the winner and they did just that after Cooper got on the end of a Marian Jusko pass.

According to Cooper, Kieron Dovey was the man-of-the-match.

"Everything went through him.

"He plays in centre-midfield as we were missing Jake Hicks through injury and Martin Jusko has gone back to Slovakia, so there was a void in the middle to fill.

"I thought he was the best player on the park."

AFC Ludlow are back in league action this Saturday when they host St Martins, kick-off 3pm.

The game is the start of three home games out for four for Cooper's team due to Ledbury's withdrawal.

"St Martins will be another tough game for us," said Cooper.

"They beat Worcester Raiders in their last game and they are second in the league.

"Bromyard are the team to beat, but we managed to do just that.

"Yet, Wyrley's only win so far was against us, so it is a bit of a strange league.

"By the middle of February and into March, we should know where we are."

Luke Hicks is still out injured and will not be unavailable this Saturday, while Rob Vass is also on the sidelines.
