A RUSH of late tries saw table-topping Bridgnorth run riot at Ludlow.

The visitors secured a resounding 71-0 success in Midlands Two West (North), although the result appeared harsh on the home side.

"We competed very well for the first 20 minutes," said club spokesperson, Phil Norton.

"But Bridgnorth have built up a very strong squad. We knew we were in for a bit of trouble."

Ludlow trailed 28-0 at half time, with at least two outstanding team tries.

But after Ludlow picked up a couple of injuries, Bridgnorth ran in five tries in the final 15 minutes.

This Saturday, Ludlow head to Camp Hill.

"It's a game we are looking to try and get a bonus point out of," said Norton.

"But they are a hard team to beat."

In Midlands Three West (North), Clee Hill comfortably saw off the challenge of Aston Old Edwardians 29-0.

Meanwhile, in Midlands Five West (North), Church Stretton maintained their 100 per cent record with a resounding 81-12 win at Whittington.

They scored 12 tries during their visit to Staffordshire to extend their lead at the top to five points with three bonus point wins from three.

Tom Downes got the ball rolling with a penalty before Tim Downes added a converted try.

Stretton’s second try came when centre Ashley Passant broke through the middle before offloading to flanker Jack Titley, who crossed under the posts.

Downes again added the conversion. The third try followed soon after, as George Bagley was on hand to capitalise from a powerful Rob Higgins break to cross for his first try of the game.

With 15 minutes of the game gone, Stretton secured a bonus point with their fourth try.

Titley pounced on an up-and-under from Nick Morris and sprinted clear to cross under the posts for his second try, with Downes adding the conversion.

Stretton continued their intensity with centre Jake Heiron next to get on the score-sheet as he finished off a flowing move before stepping inside a fullback to score a converted try.

Two more tries followed for Stretton before the break, with winger Alex Pheby finishing off another break from Heiron before Passant stepped inside his man to cross under the posts.

The home side started the second period strongly, scoring a converted try from close range within minutes of the restart. However, that was the last time they seriously threatened the Stretton line as the visitors stepped up a gear and responded with three converted tries.

Two late tries finished the rout.

This Saturday Stretton entertain unbeaten Aldridge.
