TENBURY Rugby Club captain Will Gough knows that this Saturday's derby game against local rivals Cleobury will be the perfect opportunity for his side to turn their fortunes around.

The Palmers Meadow side have been stuffed in their opening two Midlands Four (West) North games and sit bottom of the table.

Their latest reverse came last Saturday when they ere hammered 49-3 by Cannock.

But Gough believes the team is starting to play better, but acknowledges that performances need to improve as soon as possible.

"Everyone in the team knows we have to step up and play a lot better than we have been," said Gough.

"It is not good enough and we haven't competed man for man.

"Traditionally, we never start very well and our purple patch seems to be from the middle of October to January and February.

"But there is no reason why cannot play better and it will be nice to do that on Saturday.

"I am hoping for some of the senior players to lead from the front because I know we can play better.

"It is a local derby and, come 3pm, we will be ready for a tough battle."

Gough said he is hopeful that a strong team will be available for the game.

"We are still missing some players, but should have three or back, including Jack Brain and Luke Brittain," said Gough.

Gough's penalty was the only positive note to take out of last Saturday's game, but the team were never able to compete and were outfought by a very strong Cannock side.

"Cannock will, in my opinion, get promoted this season," said Gough.

"However, our backs started to gel and we deserved a couple of tries.

"The scoreline didn't reflect the game."

Cleobury , meanwhile, are top of the table with 10 points.

However, captain Will Bache said he will not take Tenbury lightly.

"They have some good players and it will be a tough game," said Bache.

"We are hoping that we can come away with the right result, but know it won't be easy."
