ORLETON ace Scott Moran could become only the fourth driver in history to claim five British Hill Climb titles when he competes this weekend.

Moran only needs a point at Doune to win this season’s MSA championship.

And, even if he fails to achieve that, nearest rival Trevor Willis has to break the hill record at all four remaining rounds.

Only Tony Marsh with six championships and Martyn Griffiths and David Grace (five apiece) have claimed more titles than Moran.

“I will be over the moon if I manage to do this,” said Moran.

“To be ranked amongst drivers of their calibre is almost unimaginable."

Moran confirmed that he will be competing in the inaugural FIA World Masters Hill Climb Championships in Luxembourg next month.

“That looks like being a great event with several UK competitors making the trip,” said Moran.

“It should help to raise the profile of the sport."

The final meeting of this season’s MSA British Hill Climb Championships is at Loton Park on September 27 and 28.

Moran said that it will be emotional for him because his father Roger will be retiring following the event.

“I've shared with dad since 2002, so It will be strange not having him drive next year,” said Moran.

“I’m going to have a quieter year so Alex Summers from Tenbury will be running the car on his own at a few events.

"One of my highlights this year was at Gurston Down in Wiltshire. Martyn Groves set the record seven years ago and I’ve been trying to break it ever since.”
