CLEOBURY Mortimer Golf Club's Josh Carpenter signed off in style as an amateur by winning the gross title at the club championships.

Carpenter will turn professional next month and ensured that his last tournament as an amateur would be one to remember.

Graced with glorious sunshine, Carpenter cruised to victory with a one-under 70 on day two of the 36-hole event and was presented with his trophy.

Carpenter also shot a 70 on the first day and was four clear of Phil Lau at the end of that day.

The nett was much more congested, with Gary Hingley carding a 67 to hold a one-shot lead.

Richard Wright, Rob Winnall, Bryan Colley and Lau were all in the mix, but fell away on day two to leave Hingley the champion after posting a two-over 73 to level for the tournament and win by six shots.

Following the victory, Hingley thanked his playing partners and praised the course, in particular the greens and bunkers.
