LUDLOW'S Bryn Simmons helped Grasshoppers win the Champions Trophy on an entertaining day of Twenty 20 action last Sunday.

Played at Ludlow, Simmons showed that he has find his form at last, with his 88 ensuring that Grasshoppers' 222-8 was too much for Tenbury in the final match of the round-robin event.

Due to Wem pulling out of the event, Grasshoppers, runners-up of the Shrewsbury and District Evening Cricket League, Tenbury and Broseley Bash winners Quatt all played each other during the day.

Quatt beat Grasshoppers in the first game, but came unstuck against Tenbury in their next encounter.

South Shropshire Twenty20 champions Tenbury won that match by two wickets, with Sam Sivetor smashing a six off the third from last ball to secure the win.

Aaron Morris also posted 41, with Zack Yarronton adding a quickfire 21.

Therefore, net run rate would determine the champions and it was Grasshoppers who came on top.

Bryn Simmons' brother Ian also scored 32 and Andy Harrison 35 in a blockbusting 20 overs.

Tenbury simply could not cope with their opponents and were skittled out for just 76, with Sivetor grabbing 36 of the runs.

Bryn Simmons said he was delighted to get his hands on the trophy.

"It was nice to get some runs and I'm in form at the moment," said Simmons.

"Because it was at Ludlow, it meant that I didn't have far to travel.

"It was lovely weather and was a really good day."

Next year's event will be held at Broseley on Sunday, September 6 2015 and will feature the winners of the South Shropshire Twenty20 league, the Broseley Bash, the Madeley Bash and the Shrewsbury and District Evening League Division One.

Simmons also helped Ludlow to a 61-run win against Frankton in Shropshire League Premier Division.

Simmons ended unbeaten on 70 as Ludlow posted 231 off their 50 overs.

The team were indebted to opener Richard Taylor, who posted his first century for the club.

James Gerritse (5-58) was the pick of the bowlers as Frankton were skittled out for 170.
