BISHOPS Castle player-manager Alex Jones said that promotion is still the aim this season despite a disappointing start to the season.

Jones has stepped up to the plate to take over Castle after last season's player-manager Andrew Green decided to join Spar Mid Wales League Division One Club Montgomery.

Castle have just one point out of their opening three games in Mercian League Division One following a a 2-1 home defeat against Rock Rovers last Saturday.

But Jones maintains that the club still has the capabilities of doing well this season.

"We just need a scorer who can put the ball in the back of the net," said Jones.

"I'm not sure if it's a confident issue, but I'm sure things will turn around soon.

"There is no reason why we cannot get promotion this season."

Castle travel to local rivals Brown Clee this Saturday and, despite losing to Rock Rovers, Jones expects not to make too many changes.

"I hope to be able to put out the same team or near enough the same team," said Jones.

"I just want a to see a bit of consistency and see where that takes us."

Against Rock Rovers, Castle opened the scoring in the 30th minute after Jack Mellor found himself some space in the box to fire home following a Matthew Owen cross.

But, Rock managed to equalise on the stroke of half time and grabbed the decisive winner five minutes after the break.

Jones said he had no complaints about the result.

"They were dominant and fully deserved the win," said Jones.

"After Jack Mellor scored, we could have pushed on and scored a couple more, but they equalised with the last kick of the first half and then scored again after the break."
