MANAGER Wayne Whitbread is delighted with Clee Hill United’s four-point haul from their opening two matches in the Mercian League Division One.

Hill added to their point against rivals Brown Clee with a comfortable 3-0 home success against Oakengates Rangers last weekend.

“We did not play anywhere near our best but it was a good win for us,” said Whitbread.

“We were probably helped by Oakengate’s poor challenges because two of our goals came from the penalty spot.”

Whitbread’s son, Liam Whitbread, scored twice from the penalty spot after Craig Breakwell had been fouled.

And Breakwell, who is a keen rugby player, scored Hill’s other goal.

“Craig Breakwell did very well and I was very pleased with his efforts because we were missing two of our leading strikers, Stevie Preece and Adam Warren.”

Hill are without a league match this weekend because Meole Brace have withdrawn from the competition but they have arranged a friendly against Orleton..

Brown Clee, managed by former Ludlow Town Colts boss Chris Waldron, drew 3-3 at home to Impact United, also in Division One.

Church Stretton, who are being managed by Paul Smith this season, suffered a 3-2 defeat at Whitchurch Alport in the Premier Division.
