Hereford Lads Club 1 Tenbury United 3

MANAGER Nick Stocker admits Tenbury United’s clash with champions Ewyas Harold this Saturday will be a good yardstick for his side.

Newly-promoted United picked up their first victory in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division at Hereford Lads Club last weekend.

Goals from Mike Foster, Ryan Morris and Ashley Giles sealed the points for United, who bossed the match in the second half.

Stocker said: "We've struggled a bit the first couple of games with numbers but the lads who have come in have done really well and it's nice to get our first points on the board.

“We look forward to testing ourselves against the current champions, Ewyas Harold, to see how far we've got to improve"

Tenbury started slow at Lads Club but opened the scoring through skipper Foster.

But United’s defence looked shaky and Lads Club soon drew level.

Stocker changed tactics, moving Foster centre back and pushing himself into a centre midfield role to boost United’s numbers in the centre of the field.

United could have led 2-1 at the break but Dale Withers’ headed effort was ruled out because of a foul.

United took control of the match in the second period and regained the lead Lads Club’s best spell.

Lee Millichip and Withers who released Ryan Morris who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 18 yards.

Not long after that Tenbury extended their lead after a long ball over the top looked.

The ball appeared to be heading through to the home goalkeeper but pressure from Giles the keeper led to a fumble.

The grateful United youngster took full advantage of the blunder, to tuck the ball into the net from close range.
