BURWAY’S Wayne Rogers sealed the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League Individual competition title for a seventh time after defeating club-mate Chris Dovey 21-13.
Rogers overcame Dovey, who had been aiming to add to his success in the league triples earlier this year, at Burway.
No inch was given by either player as the scores remained level at 9-9 after 14 ends.
Dovey took a slight advantage to lead 12-11 but Rogers scored five shots in three ends to edge ahead 16-12.
Dovey scored a shot on the next end but it was Rogers who finished the stronger and won 21-13 adding
A total of 34 players entered the tournament which attracted its usual mixture of county players, juniors and league stalwarts.
The quality of bowling throughout the early stages was of the highest order with some big names failing to get past the second round phase.
League chairman Lillian Payne made the presentations and gave special praise for the players who took part, marked cards and measured ends.
She also praised to the Burway greenkeeper, bar staff and kitchen staff who kept everyone fed and watered throughout the day.
