TENBURY Rugby Club captain Pete Stevens is hopeful that the team will be in top shape for the club's opening league game of the season against local rivals Bromyard.

The Palmers Meadow side have only had two training sessions so far and have yet to play a pre-season friendly.

However, Stevens is confident that the team will be raring to go once their Midlands Four West (North) campaign gets underway on September 13.

"Everyone is just trying to get fit after a hot summer," said Stevens.

"It is very early days and we have only had two training sessions so far and are still waiting for a friendly.

"We have got Greyhound in a cup game on September 6 before facing Bromyard a week later in our first league game.

"That is a local derby and everyone will be up for that.

"Jack Brain is coming back from the Army and Rob Yeomans is also hoping to play more this season.

"It would be nice to have a cup run and get the first win under our belts in the league.

"Bromyard will be a big game for us and it will certainly tell us how well we will do for the other games."

Captain Will Gough added that he wants to see more people will turn up for training sessions.

"I would like to see more numbers, but it is early days," said Gough.

"We have a couple new faces coming in.

"Centre Dave Worzsey has come from Droitwich, while Pete Foster will come in once he gets married.

"However, we have lost Ben King and George Williams to Malvern.

"It is always a loss to lose any player, but hopefully we'll be able to cope."

Anyone who wants to train at Tenbury can turn up at Palmers Meadow at 7pm every Wednesday.
