TENBURY will be hoping that lightning does not strike twice when they face Avoncroft in Worcestershire County League Division Three this Saturday.

Tenbury were hammered by 256 runs by their opponents in May, with Andy Nicol smashing a club record 210 runs.

The Penlu side go into the game on the back of a nine-wicket drubbing against Netherton.

Batsman Chris Giles, who decided to come out of retirement to play in the game, said that it was always going to be a touch game due to Tenbury being forced to play a weakened side.

"We went with a weakened side, so it was always going to be difficult," said Giles.

"We won the toss and elected to bat, but Tim Coles was opening for the first time.

"He has played for Tenbury for about 20 years, but has never opened the batting for the first team before."

Jon Pearson, Tom Rawlings and Darren Thompson all posted more than 20 runs, but Tenbury were eventually skittled out for 125.

Netherton never looked in any danger of getting the required runs, with Troy Lee top scoring with 40.

"We play Avoncroft on Saturday – I hope we can keep the run rate down this time."

It was also a bad day for Tenbury 2nd as they lost by nine wickets to Five Ways 2nd in Division Four.

Only Gareth Edwards (28), Ian Taylor (16) and Ben Thompson managed to get into double figures for Tenbury, who were bowled out for just 74.

Five Ways only needed 14 overs to get to their required total, with their only dismissal coming from a run-out.

Spencer Colley and Christian Parry helped Cleobury Mortimer to a two-wicket success against local rivals Stourport.

Colley top scored with 60, with Parry's 52 also providing a positive contribution.

Craig Siwicki was then the pick of his bowlers ass his six wickets ensured that Stourport just fell short.

Siwicki finished with figures of 6-48, with Lee Waldron also bagging two wickets.

Cleobury 2nd lost by nine wickets to Old Hill 4th.

in Shropshire League Division Two, Richard Powell's five wickets helped Bishops Castle to a convincing eight-wicket win against Iscoyd and Fenns Bank.

Powell ended on 5-20 off his 10 overs, with Thomas Moulder and Stephen Morris also helping themselves to two wickets apiece.

Iscoyd and Fenns Bank were bowled out for 159 and Bishops Castle never had nay trouble reaching that target.

Richard Fifield and Jonathan Price finished unbeaten on 49 and 37 respectively.

In the same league, Corvedale were thrashed by 155 runs by Beacon.

Corveadle only posted 69 runs, with Stephen Riley grabbing 22 of them.

The only positive note for the Shropshire note was Sher Mohammed Zahid getting three wickets for 27 runs,

There were wins for Ludlow's second, third and fourth teams.

The third team thrashed Harpers by 137 runs in Division Four, with the second team smashing Madeley 2nd by 131 runs in the 2nd XI Division One league.
