AFC Ludlow boss Dave Cooper says that he will not be worried about throwing in the young guns next season after seeing them destroy Wellington Amateurs.

Ryan Lewis, George Sankey and Liam Taylor, who are all 17, starred for Ludlow in the 4-1 win that was in aid of the Hope House Children's Hospice.

Ludlow were missing a number of key players for the match, but Cooper said that the youngsters did not look out of place against their higher-graded opponents.

"We played against a very experienced side, but the team were excellent," said Cooper.

"When they scored, I couldn't believe it because it was against the run of play, but the players kept going.

"They are young players, but they looked very positive.

"The future looks bright and it will b very hard to pick a team for the first game of the season."

Wellington opened the scoring at the Showtime Stadium, before Ludlow equalised through Ryan Lewis.

A brace from Jason Mynett then turned things around in favour of Cooper's team, with Aaron Dovey adding a fourth.

"Aaron ran the length of the field for his goal," said Cooper.

"He showed real desire and, after the keeper saved a shot, he tapped it home.

"We scored some good goals and played really good football."

Cooper also reserved special praise for the match officials who agreed to take control of the game at short notice.

"Mark Sutton was the referee and his assistants were his children Peter and Lucy," said Cooper.

"They did at at late notice and they officiated really well.

"They did a top job and the decisions were spot on."

A total of £300 was raised for the charity that supports terminally ill children.

Ludlow are due to be in action at the Showtime Stadium tonight (Thursday) against Radnor Valley (7pm kick-off) before facing Oakengates this Saturday in a charity match in aid of Midlands Air Ambulance.

Their last friendly will be against Malvern Rangers on Wednesday before they open their West Midlands League Division One season at home against Bustlehome on August 9.

"We just want to compete next season," said Cooper.

"The young kids do not worry about other teams and do not have a fear factor.

"Once we have some of the key players playing, I think we will be a hard team to face for any team."
