SIMON Miles was dismissed just one run short of a century for Ludlow Cricket Club’s fourth team in the Shropshire County League 2nd XI Division Three.

Miles was stumped on 99 in Ludlow’s winning draw against Iscoyd and Fenns Bank 2nd in an exciting league match last Saturday.

Miles, Will Armitage (33), Jack Small (27) and Kev Boulton (14) combined to lift Ludlow to 203-6 from 35 overs, despite good bowling from Josh Passey (3-30).

Armitage (4-42), Miles (2-13) and Joe Williams (2-26) and starred for Ludlow, who restricted Iscoyd for 171-9. Steve Reece (64) led the way for Iscoyd.

A dominant knock from Keanu Cooper powered Ludlow 2nd to a crushing 10-wicket triumph at Lilleshall 2nd in 2nd XI Division One.

In reply to Lilleshall’s 136 all out, Cooper clouted an unbeaten 85 and Dylan Grinker hit 44 not out to see Ludlow to the target in just 16.1 overs.

Previously, Chris Ammonds (3-18), Luke Hicks (3-19) and John Webb (2-18) helped to rush out Lilleshall in the 48th over.

Former first-team skipper Louis Watkins snapped up six wickets in a rain-affected abandoned home match against Overton-on-Dee in Division Four.

Watkins bagged up 6-46, while Seb Kidson took 2-26 as Ludlow limited Overton to 150-9. Ludlow had progressed to 22-0 in the fourth over when heavy rain washed out the match.

All-rounder Peter Lee also had six-appeal in Church Stretton’s exciting losing draw at home to Prees in Division Three.

Lee claimed 6-44 from 10.1 overs, while Thomas Crump took 3-34 and Stretton skittled out Prees for 190 in 35.1 overs.

Martin Nichols (71) shone in Stretton’s run-chase and, although Adam Harris (19), Crump (16) and Adam Groom (13 not out) chipped in, the hosts were limited to 169-9 from 44 overs.

Tenbury 2nd crashed to a 155-run defeat at Halesowen 4th in the Worcestershire County League 2nd XI Division Four.

Teenager Jamie Farrar (3-19) and Derek James (3-45) were the most successful bowlers for Tenbury as the home side rattled up 278-7 with Chris Woodhouse (97) providing the basis.

Jon Pearson (30), Tom Pugh (29) and Darren Ingram (23) all made starts for Tenbury, but they could only manage 123.

Sam Evans was 51 not out when rain washed out Cleobury’s Division Three match in Birmingham against Harborne 3rd. Cleobury were 103-4 from 21.5 overs when the rain arrived.

GOLFER Ollie Farr has climbed to fifth in the European Challenge Tour rankings after a tied fourth-placed finish at Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.

Former Ludlow Golf Club champion Farr, a winner already this year at the Turkish Airlines Challenge, was fourth alongside Englishman Jack Senior at the picturesque Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club
