PLAYERS from Tenbury United Football Club are not worried about peaking too early for the new campaign.

The club scaled new heights last season by clinching the Herefordshire League Division One title at the first attempt.

Now the club are proving that they can overcome even bigger obstacles by tackling the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge.

“Eight of us are doing the Three Peaks Challenge and we will be raising money for the football club and the Air Ambulance,” explained United player-boss Aaron Morris.

“We are planning to do some fund-raising for the club this summer and we are also thinking of bringing back the annual duck race,”

Morris will be joined by fellow United manager Nick Stocker, Paul Smith, Mike Foster, Sam Williams, Duncan Palmer, Mark Benbow and Gavin Morris in the Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday, August 1.

They will be trying to scale the heights of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just 24 hours.

The challenge involves walking the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

Ben Nevis, in Scotland, is the highest of the three peaks at 1344 metres.

It is in an area of the Scottish Highlands and close to the town of Fort William.

Scafell Pike, at 978 metres, is the highest mountain in England, and in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria.

And Snowdon, at 1,085 metres, is the highest mountain in Wales and in the Snowdonia National Park.

Morris said: “As a club, we have never done anything like it before.

“Nick Stocker did it a few times when he was young and involved in the Hereford United Youth set-up but that was some years ago. We are fully aware that it is going to be very demanding but there will be eight of us doing it and we will be supporting each other.

“A lot of the lads can’t do it in the week due to work and other commitments.”

Meanwhile, Morris is trying to arrange some pre-season friendlies for United.

United will be playing in the Herefordshire League Premier Division.

They stormed to the Division One crown at their first attempt in the Herefordshire structure.

Morris said: “I am not trying to arrange friendlies against teams in our league this season because we will come up against those teams.

“We want to test ourselves out against other clubs and Malvern Rangers have been in touch and they were are a new side who are in West Midlands League Division Two.”
