LUDLOW Pony Club member Fred Powell has been selected to join Great Britain’s under-18 junior eventing team.
The Lucton School pupil will be compete at an international competition in Camphire, southern Ireland, from July 24 to July 27.
The young squad was selected by British Eventing coaches who travelled the country watching potential young riders at qualifying competitions.
Louise Powell, Fred’s mother, said, “We are so proud of Fred and we are over the moon that all his hard work is paying off.
He has some fabulous coaches in the Ludlow Pony Club, where he has been a member since he was four years old and here at Lucton School, which continues to support and encourage him”
Riding in international competitions has additional logistical and financial implications, as Louise explains: “We are in the process of looking for possible sponsors to help Fred travel to Ireland and continue his training.”
Fred is a member of the Lucton School Equestrian Team and trains at the school’s riding centre under equestrian manager, Emma Coates.
Emma said: “This is a wonderful achievement. Fred is a talented young rider with a lot of potential. We are all very proud of Fred and we hope he enjoys the experience.”
Anyone keen to help support Fred Powell in his eventing ambitiopn, should call his mother, Louise Powell, on 07967 130783.
