CROFT Ambrey’s Sue Davies romped to victory in the women’s race at the 14th running of the Shobdon Wood Race.

The in-form Welsh international triumphed by 40 seconds from Inkberrow’s Nadine Lewycky in demanding conditions.

She won the women’s section of the Herefordshire Cross Country League and led the Croft Ambrey team to success at the same time.

Croft Ambrey’s Irina Dale finished third at Shobdon in her last run for the club before heading off to Ecuador to perform a year’s voluntary work with disabled children.

It proved to be a fitting send-off as she also helped her Croft team win the women’s team prize with the support of Davies and Stephanie Main.

Croft Ambrey’s Mark Lamonby took third place in the men’s race and there were solid displays from Sam Mayglothling and Glyn Williams.

Croft Ambrey Running Club organised the race which attracted a record turn-out with 134 finishers completing the challenging course over a hilly and scenic course.

Heavy overnight rain had made the conditions tricky in places but the rain relented for the duration of the event organised by.

Mike Pfeiffer, a 48-year-old Welsh masters international running for Brecon AC, won the race, a minute ahead from Hereford Couriers’ Matt James.
