LUDLOW batsman Keanu Cooper had the best day of his career, smashing 209 runs in the GB Liners Marches Sunday League.

Cooper clouted 21 fours and eight sixes in a remarkable 119-ball knock in Ludlow’s 353-run battering of Leominster-based Dales.

He shared a 318-run third-wicket partnership in just 28 overs with all-rounder Ian Simmons (109) in Sunday’s clash.

Glen Whittaker weighed in with an unbeaten 31 for Ludlow, who piled up 407-5 against 10-man Dales.

Former first-team skipper Louis Watkins claimed 3-8 as Dales were shot out for just 84.

It was also a memorable day for Keanu’s 14-year-old sister, Courtney Cooper, who impressed in an England Women’s Development programme talent detection game at Loughborough University.

Courtney made 30 runs, after mistakenly being given run-out in her first knock, and then took 2-5 in an impressive four-over stint.

Courtney had been invited to take part in the 50-overs-a-side match by England youth manager Lisa Pagett.

Ludlow captain Bryn Simmons is expecting a ‘big reaction’ from his players in this Saturday’s match at Cound in the Shropshire County League.

Gagendeep Singh, who has played in the Indian Premier League, snapped up 5-17 as Ludlow crashed to a 146-run home defeat against Worfield last weekend.

Skipper Simmons said: “Worfield were really good and we were not very good. We were a bit off-colour after Worfield had won the toss and decided to bat first.”

Despite tidy spells from Matt Kennedy (2-35), Ian Simmons (2-57) and Will Sparrow (2-58), Worfield amassed 256-7.

Although captain Simmons top-scored with 30, Ludlow were dismissed for 110 in the 37th over.

Simmons said: “We knew that Worfield were going to be a tough test and a side which was likely to be pushing at the top this season.

“Things did not click for us. I hate losing – it ruins my weekend – and I will be looking for a reaction from my players in this weekend’s match at Cound.”

He added: “I play for Grasshoppers in the Shrewsbury Midweek League and a few of the lads from Cound also play for the side. Cound have some very good players.”

Adam Williams snapped up 6-40 and bagged 38 in Corvedale’s 91-run loss against Condover in Division Two.

Steve Morris and Thomas Moulder both picked up three wickets in Bishops Castle’s 132-run defeat against Tibberton, also in Division Two.

There was disappointment for Tenbury, who crashed to a five-wicket defeat at Bredon in the Worcestershire County League Division Three.

Tom Gloster top-scored with 35 but Tenbury were skittled out for 115 in the 35th over after a fine spell from Martin Hill (4-28).

Zack Yarranton claimed 3-41 but Bredon, who used to play in the now defunct Three Counties League, eased home for the loss of five wickets.
