THE experienced Nigel Griffiths made a mockery of the tricky conditions to top Division One in Ludlow Golf Club’s May Monthly medal.

Griffiths carded a winning haul of 39 points to finish two clear of the chasing pack on firm and fast greens coupled with a breeze blowing across the course.

Griffiths laid the base for his score with a fantastic front-nine of 21 points.

Ross Magill finished second, returning 37 points, after a very solid round consisting of one birdie, two bogeys and 15 pars.

Dave Fish took third spot and finished with two birdies in the last 6 holes to just miss out on the top-two places. His victory chances dashed after only collecting one point on the very difficult 10th hole.

Chris Bott carded 39 points in a closely-fought Division Two contest.

Bott’s round didn’t get off to the best start after dropping a point on the first hole.

He soon got that point back on the second with a nett birdie and went on to finish the front nine with 19 points.

He gave a solid back nine over the closing four holes, with nett birdies on the 15th and 16th holes, to secured the win.

John Bown, with 38 points, took second spot and looked to have every chance of victory when he stepped up to the 17th tee.

But Bown played a long par three playing straight into the wind and it proved crucial after he walked off without scoring.

He did manage to gather himself for a solid 18th to ensure he saw off Trevor Gray into third.

The 10th hole was also Gray’s downfall - he dropped his only points of the day on it.

However, he recovered very well to collect extra points on 12 and 13 for a third-place finish

Bob Burt coasted to victory in Division Three and finished four points clear of his nearest rival.

Burt started his round like a train and was three shots under his handicap after six holes.

Michael Groves took second place with 32 points and would have run Burt a lot closer but for difficulties on the 14th and 15th holes. But Groves finished strongly and made sure he pushed John Hughes, who carded 31 points, into third position.
