FOUR members of Ludlow Castle Motor Club revved up their engines at the Plains Rally recently.

Alex Allingham, who was the top-seeded driver in his Subaru Impreza S10, but rued a steady start after losing three seconds to his main rivals in the first special stage at the BritishTrial and Rally Drivers' Association Rally Championship event in Welshpool.

Allingham and his co-driver Chris Williams eventually lost the class by five seconds, placing them ninth overall.

Simon Rogers and Andrew Sankey raced in Rogers' Mitsubishi Evo 6 and were hopeful of a good run, which would consolidate their class lead in the championship.

They finished fourth in their class, and with two crews not registered for the championship, they still gathered some useful points to maintain their class lead.

Mile Wilding once again teamed up with Jon Ballinger in the Opel Manta, with Wilding another Ludlow member who was leading his class in the championship.

But the strong entry would also affect the pair, with them having to settle for fourth place in their class.

However, once again, with two crews not being registered for the championship, Wilding and Ballinger also managed to maintain their lead.

James Hamer and Mike Baker had a very short run in the Glyn Hamer Mill Max Ltd Subaru Impreza, retiring after just one stage due to turbo problems.

On the road rally scene, father ans son Chris and Keaton Williams tackled the Border 100 organised by the Welsh Border Car Club.

Seeded in the Novice Class, Chris, in only his second, and Keaton decided that a steady start was crucial due to the tricky navigation.

At the petrol halt, they were second in the class, two minutes down on the leader.

They therefore chose to apply push a little, but still try to be sensible.

That approach paid off because the Williams team finished first in their class and 34th overall.

The club's next meeting will be at the Ludlow Brewery from 8pm on Wednesday, June 11.
