Bishops Castle 1 Childs Ercall 3

BISHOPS Castle Town manager Andy Green had no complaints after seeing his team miss out on winning the Mercian League Division One Cup.

Green's boys were outplayed in the showpiece at Telford's New Bucks ground against a side who secured a league and cup double.

"They were a better team and outplayed us," said Green.

"It's a nice little place to go and play and we had a few supporters there.

"It's a bit disappointing to lose, but everybody worked hard and I haven't got too many complaints."

Green said that the turning point was when Childs Ercall were awarded a penalty in the first half after Dan Dawson was adjudged to have tugged a Childs Ercall player's shirt.

The resulting spot-kick was dispatched and, from that moment on, Town were always up against it.

Ercall scored two further goals in the second half, meaning that Luke Mellor's strike for Castle proved immaterial.

Green's team will now be looking to bounce back when when they face Newcastle in the final of Bishops Castle Cup this Sunday.

Clee Hill suffered another hammering against Wroxeter in Mercian League Division One.

Wayne Whitbread's team lost 9-0 their higher graded opponents, which followed a 5-2 humbling against the same team the previous week.

"We were short of players and Wroxeter are going for the runners-up spot," said Whitbread, who missed the game because he was at a wedding.

"I was told that the team didn't necessarily play badly, but they were just too strong for us.

"However, overall, it's been a good season for us , even though the last few results have put a dent on it.

"We are moving in the right direction and, when we have everyone available, we're a match for anyone in the league."
