Clee Hill boss blames "missed opportunities" for defeat
Clee Hill 2 Wroxeter Rovers 5
CLEE Hill manager Wayne Whitbread says missed opportunities were key to his side suffering a hammering against Wroxeter in Mercian League Division One.
The away side opened the scoring in the first minute and, from that moment on, Clee Hill were always playing catch-up.
"Their finishing was clinical, whereas we wasted our chances," said Whitbread.
"We missed a few one-on-ones, while three of their goals were headers.
"I'm disappointed with the result, but overall, we played quite well and the result doesn't really reflect the game."
Whitbread said the turning point came when, at 2-0 down, Clee Hill were denied a penalty because a player was in an offside position.
"If we had scored, then who knows what would have happened," said Whitbread.
Wroxeter stormed into a 4-0 lead in the second half, before Craig Breakwell pulled a goal back for Whitbread's team.
Ryan Harper also scored for Clee, but it was not enough and they ended up losing 5-2.
Church Stretton joint-manager Joe Leask thinks that the occasion may have got to some of his players as a 5-3 defeat against Oakengates handed their opponents the Mercian Premier Division title.
Stretton went into the game three points ahead of Oakengates and knew a win would have handed them the trophy.
But, they were never at the races - - much to the disappointment of Leask.
"We just didn't show up," said Leask.
"They dominated in every area of the pitch and deserved to win.
"I'm not sure if the occasion got to some of the players, but considering we lost only once in 13 games prior to the game, we have still done well."
Toby Sivetar scored four goals, but still ended up on the losing side as Leintwardine Colts lost 8-5 to Ross Juniors Reserves in Herefordshire League Division Three.
Leintwardine's other goal came via a Ben James penalty.
Dom Finlay scored a dramatic winner for Woofferton in their 3-2 win against Holme Lacy in Herefordshire League Division One.
Dan Gower also scored a brace for Steve Chadd's team, who are now third in the table.
Brown Clee beat Meole Brace 4-0 in Mercian League Division One.
