THREE Tenbury boxers shone at a show in the Midlands on Friday night.

George Sloan, Sam Holroyd and Joe Partridge starred for Paddy Brennan's Boxing Academy.

Sloan knocked out his rival and Holroyd lost out to a majority decision from the judges.

He has moved up in class and weight and Paddy will be putting him through the school boy championships next season.

Partridge also put in a top display but narrowly lost out in the show at Warley.

Coach Martin ‘Paddy’ Brennan was delighted with his three ring stars.

“That's is it from us this season on the competitive front but our boxers will be back in September with some new boxers to add to the already growing stable at the club.”

Sloan stepped up and knocked out his opponent in the third round.

“It was a very busy contest with both boxers giving it their all,” said Paddy,

“But George proved too strong for his rival and, in the second round, he inflicted a standing count before finally knocking out the lad in the last round.”

Holroyd boxed a very experienced boy who edged the fight in the last round winning on majority.

“There was nothing in it right to the end of three close rounds but the lad from Northampton was a bit more experienced and deserved to win,” said Paddy.

Big Joe Partridge also did Tenbury proud on Friday night and fought a boxer who had stopped three of his last opponents.

“Joe weights in at 103kg came out of the corner and threw everything but the kitchen sink at his rival,” explained Paddy, whose club is at Bleathwood.

“Joe’s opponent covered up and ran round the ring to avoiding Joe’s barrage of punches.

“It could easily have been over in the first round had Joe connected with his right hand.

“But Joe’s opponent was much more experienced than him and fought his way through to pick up the majority decision.

“Both boxers gave their all with both lads lying on the ropes at the end of the three action-packed and exciting rounds.”

Paddy is now planning to run sessions for boxers on Mondays and Fridays during the summer and a series of boot camps which, he says, are proving very popular.
