RICH Green was in the money for Church Stretton Town as his first-half goal against Weston Rhyn proved to be just enough to keep his side’s in the title race.

The 1-0 win over the Mercian League Premier Division's bottom side may not have been the comfortable scoreline boss Joe Leask would have liked, but without a win in three games, it was the result his side needed.

Leask said: “It’s a cliché, but we just needed the points.”

Draws against Shifnal United and Allscott, and a defeat by Morda, had left Stretton in danger of falling out of touch with leaders Oakengate Athletic .

Leask’s men trail the leaders by five points, but hold a game in hand and, crucially, face them on the final day of the season in what could been a showdown for the title.

In a tough week that sees them face off against top-six sides Morda and Hodnet, Stretton are one of the few top teams not fighting on multiple fronts – with only the league left to play for.
