BOSS Andrew Green is confident Bishops Castle Town can retain the Newcastle Cup after breezing to a 4-1 semi-final success over Leintwardine Colts.

Matt Perry, Niall Thomas, Green and Dan Dawson were on target for holders Castle, who will meet Orleton Colts in the final at Newcastle on April 27.

Green said: “We had brothers Matt and Jack Perry stepping up from the youth and, with the team we have got, we should win it again.”

Orelton booked their final spot after a 6-3 extra-time triumph over Kerry Reserves.

It was a good weekend for Bishops Castle, who maintained their Mercian League Division One title challenge with a 3-0 home win over Dawley Town.

Man-of-the-match Andrew Edwards was in top form for Castle, whose goals came from Thomas, Dan Griffiths and Sam Naden.

Clee Hill manager Wayne Whitbread was happy with his side, despite a 3-0 at home loss to high flying Childs Ercall.

“We did not play too badly and I could not for any more from the lads,” said Whitbread.

“We made two mistakes in the game and they punished us.

“Tom Evans normally plays at centre-half but he switched to left-back and had a very good game.”

Luke Hicks missed a a late penalty for Ludlow Town Colts in a 3-2 at home defeat against Wrockwardine Wood in Division Two.

Josh Partridge hit a 20-yarder into the top corner and Jason Mynett also scored after fine work from Aaron Hodge.

But Colts’ boss Chris Waldron said: “Mistakes at the back cost us two goals which we could have prevented. Despite his penalty miss, Hicks was the man of the match for a great display at centre-half.
