RENE Johnson’s double inspired Tenbury Ladies to a 5-0 victory at Droitwich Ladies 2nd in the Worcestershire Women’s Hockey League Division One.

Tina Bickley came out of retirement to score for Tenbury, while Kerry Bason and Emma Reddock were also on target.

Goalkeeper Jo Rusling was in top form for Tenbury and made a superb late penalty save.

In-form Bason advanced through Droitwich’s midfield and defence and slipped a pass to Reddock whose exquisite finish capped her player-of-the-match display.

A depleted Tenbury fielded just 10 players and went after a strong run from Vicky Riley was slipped home by Bickley

Tenbury kept up the pressure in the second half with Bason, Johnson and Reddock all getting on the score sheet.

Tenbury had started well, with Reddock, Bason and Riley combining well up front with their silky touches and dribbling causing Droitwich early problems.

Bickley said: “It was a great all-round performance by Tenbury who worked so hard throughout the game.” Tenbury host second-placed Bromsgrove this Saturday.

Ludlow Hockey Club’s men’s team picked up a point from a 2-2 draw at Redditch in the West Midlands League Division One.

There was disappointment for Ludlow’s 2nd team who crashed to a 5-1 home defeat against an impressive West Bromwich side.

Full-back Aaron Wilcox scored for Ludlow after a breakaway run in the second half culminated in a well-struck reverse hit into the back of the net.

Charlie Lyth and Jake Watts both had similar shots stopped earlier in the match.

It was the first time this season that Ludlow’s second team had fielded the same side for the second match running.

The first half tested the abilities of the Ludlow goalkeeper and defensive unit who took control at times but were unable to maintain control throughout and succumbed to two goals following defensive errors.

After an unimpressive first-half, Ludlow proceeded to win the latter period, progressing with confidence as the midfield took the brunt from the opposition and re-distributed ball well to hungry forwards.

Debutant Vanessa Campbell scored for Ludlow men’s 3d in an agonising 3-2 defeat in a hard-fought match against Bloxwich.

Ludlow lost a closely fought match in the dying seconds when a Bloxwich penalty corner slipped agonisingly over the goal line.

Bloxwich had taken an early lead before Jack Pritchard equalised after an excellent passing move. Despite the best efforts of Jim Campbell in goal, Bloxwich regained the lead.

Ludlow played a more structured game after the interval and Campbell, on her Ludlow debut, struck home a powerful shot to level the scores.

However as both sides tired, Bloxwich sneaked the winning goal.
