TWO Ludlow Amateur Boxing Club competitors will be making their debuts in front of their home crowd tomorrow night (Friday).

Ben Bywater and Sam Hartley are among seven Ludlow boxers fighting on the club’s much-anticipated dinner show at Ludlow Racecourse.

The Key brothers from Cleobury, James and Tom, will also be featuring on the card, with James defending his UBC novice belt in the 54kg to 57kg section.

Another Cleobury lad, Chris Preece, is also listed to compete at the show, together with Chadd Woodfield and Charlie Barnfield.

The promising Chadd Woofield, whose dad, Colin, is the club’s vice-chairman, is being lined up to face a Midlands champion.

Woodfield is expecting a crowd of around 400 people to watch the show, which will raise money to buy equipment for the club’s new gym and help with the running costs.

Colin Woodfield said: “It promises to be another exciting show, with boxers coming from Nuneaton, Dudley, Northampton, Ledbury and Worcester.

“There is a bus-load of people coming across from Cleobury to watch the three lads and if everyone comes along who has said they would, we should have a crowd of around 400.

“It will be the first outings for Ben Bywater and Sam Hartley, who will be making their maiden appearances, and I am sure their families will be excited.”

Preece was in action in a show last Saturday at Essington working men’s club and suffered a narrow points’ defeat against an opponent from Richie Carter Golden Gloves ABC.

Tomorrow night’s boxing show at Ludlow Racecourse gets under way with a meal at 6.30pm for 7pm, with the action in the ring expected to start at around 8.30pm. Tickets, for the standing area cost £12 each, and are available on the door. For more details on the show, call Colin Woodfield on 07866 502485.
