CHILDREN from Corvedale Primary School have been getting into the swing of things with help from Ludlow Golf Club.

Corvedale are the first school to benefit from the club’s junior development programme to establish links with primary schools in the Ludlow area.

Ludlow Golf Club are celebrating their 125th anniversary and have launched a free junior membership programme for children aged 16 years old and under.

The club’s honorary secretary, Peter Clements, said: “We were approached by a governor at Corvedale Primary School who said they were keen to have golf at the school. We are keen to establish links with schools and said we would be delighted to get involved.”

The programme includes two taster sessions at the school, four weekly sessions at schools for pupils and adults interested in golf, and then two sessions on the driving range at Ludlow Golf Club.

The children will have a chance to follow in the footsteps of another talented young golfer, Tara Rodenhurst.

Clements added: “We are hoping that other primary schools in the area will be interested in something similar and we will then, with the aid of the Golf Foundation, approach the secondary schools in the Ludlow area.

Clements added: “The aim of the scheme is to get children engaged in the sport and, hopefully, they will bring along their friends and family to the club, who will see the fun and enjoyment to be had from the sport and our fantastic facilities at Ludlow.”

Ludlow Golf Club have lost just four and a half days of playing action due to the wet weather.

They cub have planned a host of events to celebrate their 125th anniversary, including a golf week from July 26 to August 3 and a maiden women’s scratch salver.

The golf week will include a two-day club championship and junior open and the organisers are hoping ex-Ludlow stars Graham and Oliver Farr can take part in the club’s first pro-am since 2000.

Ludlow have organised a 12-a-side match against Ludlow Race Club for May 16 with proceeds going to the Injury Jockey Fund and the Air Ambulance.

There are also plans for an anniversary ball, and home and away matches against Epsom Downs, in July and October, respectively.

Clements said: “We do not have a membership waiting list and will welcome anyone who wishes to take up the game.”
