AFC Ludlow 13 Malvern Rangers 1

BOSS Dave Cooper says his AFC Ludlow players have nothing to fear in their biggest game of the season at Team Dudley this Saturday.

Cooper’s men are just one place and one point behind the West Midlands League Division Two table-toppers after demolishing Malvern Rangers.

“We beat Team Dudley 2-1 a few weeks ago and they are top of the table,” said Cooper.

“We must respect Team Dudley’s position but I didn’t think Dudley were too special and the scoreline flattered them a bit.

“We are pretty confident and have nothing to fear about this match, especially with the way we have been playing.”

Marksman Nathan Hodge bagged five goals against Malvern Rangers last weekend, with his brother Dale hitting.

Cooper’s son, Keanu, grabbed a brace, while Jason Mynett, Marion Jusko and an own goal also contributed for Ludlow, who led 7-1 at the interval.

Cooper said: “The only bit I wasn’t happy about was giving away a goal but we were 4-0 up at the time.

“We have now picked up three victories on the trot and all at home – and we have points in the bag- so that is pleasing.”

Dale Hodge credited Dave Cooper’s Copa Mundial boots for his success against Malvern Rangers.

“I borrowed the manager’s special Copa Mundial boots against Malvern. I don’t think his boots have seen much better out on the pitch.

“Our trip to Dudley this weekend is vital. We then have to play and beat Wolverhampton Sporting - twice in one month. But there is no reason why we can’t show - what we can do in the title race.

“Wolverhampton lost 7-0 against Newport; so the title race is back on for us. But we have to take it one game at a time.

“I think Wrens are in a good position, and they have four games in hand. We have to win every game; if we want to win the championship.”

Dale Hodge admits he and his brother Nathan have a unique understanding out on the pitch.

“We have played together for a long time. Even if we just go for a kick about down the park. Nathan knows what I’m going to do on the ball; and I know what his going to do.

“I was supposed to play centre-back, but the boss changed things around. I got four assists and when I came off after an hour it was 10-1.”

Ludlow had previously won 5-1 in a friendly against Orleton Colts on Thursday with goals from Rob Boyd (2), Luke Hicks, Kieran Dovey and Dale Hodge.

Cooper added: “Had I had this side earlier in the season, we would not have dropped the points we have. Having a goal-scorer makes a huge difference to our team.”
