THE experience of Will Morgan will prove crucial in Tenbury Rugby Club’s battle to avoid the drop from Midlands Four West (North).

That’s the view from skipper Pete Stevens, who is delighted to welcome back a rejuvenated Morgan after a holiday.

Tenbury, who are second-from-bottom, face a tough trip to table-topping Harborne in a re-arranged league match this Saturday.

Harborne have won 12 of their 13 league matches this season and romped to a 38-19 success at Palmer’s Meadow in November.

“Will Morgan is now back from his holiday and he is going to have a big part to play for the remainder of the season,” said Stevens.

“Will has played a lot of rugby over the years and has got a fantastic rugby brain we will all be looking to him to lead from the front.

“Chuck Parry should also be available for much of the rest of the season.”

All matches in the division were washed out last weekend and Tenbury remain six points adrift of third-from-bottom Warley.

Tenbury were due to play basement boys St Leonards last weekend but it was called off because their Palmer’s Meadow pitch was waterlogged.

“It feels a bit strange to be waking up on a Monday morning with no aches and pains,” admitted Stevens.

“We tried to delay our decision as late as possible but the heavy rain on Friday night meant that the pitch was unplayable.

“I had several phonecalls about the match and I even had some calls from a Hereford number on a Saturday morning.

“Greyhound are now six points ahead of us and we have some really big games coming up.”

It is very frustrating at the moment but, looking at the weather forecast, we should definitely be playing, this Saturday.

“All the boys have had a bit of lay-off and they should be raring to go and it will be nice to get back out on the scrummage machine.”

Stevens added: “We have not done any outside training recently but we have been doing circuits at Ian Bowkett’s gym in Tenbury.”

“A lot of the lads have benefited from a break and we are very excited about the game.

“We are still confident that we will stay in this division – we have to finish above the bottom two.”
