GOALS from Joe Haywood and Charlie Lyth salvaged a point for Ludlow Hockey Club 2nd in a 2-2 draw at Droitwich in the West Midlands League 2nd XI Division Two.

Ludlow twice fought back in a frantic affair and were eventually pleased to hear the final whistle.

An experienced and determined Droitwich squad took the lead in the 11th minute.

But half-backs Matt Brundrett and Jack Phasey supported the defence and flanks with strength and stamina. Captain Graeme Wilcox inspired his side with an impressive performance, while Jake Watts confidently and effectively took up the centre-half challenge.

Ludlow eventually drew level 10 minutes before the break through Joe Haywood.

The hosts regained the lead early in the second half but Ludlow doubled their efforts to get back in the game through Lyth, George Borns and Tyler Davis.

Lyth had an effort disallowed but he eventually struck with 11 minutes remaining, successfully converting a midfield through-ball.

Tim Machin forced a low diving save from the in-form Droitwich goalkeeper before the final whistle sounded.

Meanwhile, Jack Pritchard bagged two goals for Ludlow 3rd in a 2-2 home draw against Bridgnorth.

Ludlow’s debutant keeper James Campbell had a fine match with Ollie Boulton shining in attack and defence.
