YOUNG bowler Jamie Farrar is lighting up Tenbury Cricket Club’s performances in this season’s Herefordshire Indoor League.

That’s the view from Tenbury team captain Jonathan Pearson, who is keen to bring on the young players at the club.

Tenbury suffered defeat against Brampton Bryan and Burghill and Tillington last weekend but Pearson is looking at the wider picture.

“We are fielding some young players and 12-year-old opening bowler Jamie Farrar is doing brilliantly for the team,” said Pearson.

“Jamie is my opening bowler and he’s been our best bowler. He has been outstanding – he’s a right-arm seam bowler and he’s even topped Aaron Morris in the bowling stakes a few times.

“Jamie is certainly a bright start of the future and it’s very exciting.”

Pearson added: “We did not play in the Indoor League last season but we played it in a couple of years ago.”

Pearson has been appointed as the midweek captain for Tenbury’s side, in the Woodstock Cricket Company South Shropshire Twenty20 League.

He is also heading up the club’s growing junior section and is hoping to take a coaching course in the future.

“We are not entering a youth team into the Worcestershire Cup competition this season but I will be looking to arrange some friendlies again,” Pearson confirmed.

“Last summer, our youth team played friendlies against Bromyard and I am hoping we can do this again and also play against Ludlow and other local sides.

“At the end of last season, we had between 25 and 30 children turning up to nets and we also had a healthy group who were just nine years old.”

The club’s pre-season indoor nets, for juniors and seniors, are taking place at Moor Park School in Ludlow, starting in March.

“The senior season was disappointing last season but the launch of the junior section and the growing numbers put a smile on everyone’s face,” said Peaeason.

“As a club it is important to focus on the youth and development. It’s vital to give young players a chance and to see them coming through and enjoying their cricket.”

Tenbury are competing in the Worcestershire County League Division There this summer.

Tenbury’s first team will begin their new league season at home to Harborne on April 26, with the second team travelling to Himbleton 2nd.
